Cornea Gives Back: The Family Place

At Cornea Associates of Texas, we are very lucky to have a team of staff and doctors that are very dedicated to providing quality healthcare to our patients. We are also very lucky that we have been so successful in doing so that we’ve been able to expand and grow our practice continually since its inception. We know that we could never have been counted among Dallas Morning News’ Top 100 Places to Work for the last 4 years straight without the fine doctors and staff that we are fortunate enough to consider family, so we cherish our Cornea Family as much as each of us cherishes their own.
Since “family” is such a cornerstone of our practice morale and philosophy, we couldn’t think of a better organization to recognize and lend our support to than The Family Place in Dallas.
The Family Place is a local organization dedicated to empowering survivors of family violence by offering free comprehensive services that help prevent violence and fully support women, 
children, and men on their path from fear to safety. They are the leading organization Dallas that supports survivors and advocates for social change to stop family violence. They provide safe housing, counseling, and skills-building that helps create independence through programs that address emotional and physical abuse and incest.
In 2015, The Family Place provided services to 10,729 clients and 141,317 hours of service in English and in Spanish for the Dallas community. As a non-profit organization, The Family Place relies on the community it serves for support and donations (be it volunteer time, services, financial contributions, or essential items) are greatly appreciated.
One of our technicians this last quarter raised an excellent point in passing that was heard by our office administrator that we, at Cornea Associates, needed to start giving back to the community that has helped us grow so much. Another of our employees, a member of our billing team, has been personally involved in philanthropic work with The Family Place for some time and immediately brought the organization to our attention as one that could certainly benefit from Cornea Associates’ support.
This past week at our Quarterly Meeting/Awards event (held at the end of each financial quarter, a meeting in which we review and acknowledge our quarterly goals met and recognize select individuals of staff chosen by our team leaders to have demonstrated exceptional patient service, teamwork, or professional accomplishment) we took some time to raise awareness and support of The Family Place and the exceptional work they do. We also donated high-demand items, like new and gently-used coats and blankets, and prepared 144 individual sets of essential toiletries. Our whole staff, including doctors, pooled together in an assembly line to compile kits of items like toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, tissues, hand towels, and more.
An organization like this one deserves the recognition and support of not just Cornea Associates, but the entire community.
