Candidates for the Verisyse lens implantation are nearsighted patients that range from -5 to -20. Almost always these are patients who have been told they are not LASIK candidate for one particular reason or another. With the Verisyse lens implantation much like other intraocular surgeries, we do one at a time and that is for a safety margin. As with any surgery we do, there are potential risks and complications and we want to do everything we can to minimize those risks. Therefore we schedule the surgery separately to make sure we are giving each eye the individual attention it needs. Every surgery we do at Cornea Associates of Texas has a potential benefit, but it also has a potential risk. Everything we do in medicine, surgery, the medicine we use, we have a value judgment. We want to make sure that the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.
