If you are a candidate for LASIK, then you are a candidate for PRK. However, patients who are not good candidates for laser treatment because of the thickness of their cornea or the amount of their prescription may be better suited for PRK.
The indication for PRK is the same as it is for LASIK. Basically anyone that is a LASIK candidate is also a PRK candidate. The difference becomes why do we make the decision from LASIK to PRK. There are some patient’s who are not good laser candidates and that is either because of the thickness of the cornea, the amount of their prescription, other associated eye problems or just in general PRK is deemed the right surgery for that individual patient.
